Each oil painting is original and painted by me in my UK studio using quality materials. They make a great gift or piece of wall art for your home. I work in layers, creating an expressive portrait with depth and interest, working to create a likeness and finished portrait you are happy with. It’s lovely to look back on an image or moment in time which has been beautifully captured and preserved in art form.

TURNAROUND TIME
Once your requirements have been confirmed, your painting will be completed in 1-2 weeks (usually 1) and I prefer to wait another week until the painting is dry before shipping to avoid any damage or potential smudging. Please get in touch before ordering if you need your painting sooner so I can ensure I will meet your deadline.

REFERENCE PHOTOS
I am happy to receive a good selection of photos to help me get a sense of the person I’ll be painting and to see them from different angles. However, in order to capture an accurate likeness, I will need images which have good lighting and are large or zoomed in enough to allow me to see smaller features and colouring clearly. If in doubt, just send it over and I can let you know you if it can work.
Sometimes the best option is to take a new version of a picture you already had in mind. Again, I’m more than happy to give guidance here.

COMBINING IMAGES Combining images, objects or Working with a Colour scheme
Image reference can be used as it is or as the basis for the finished painting with some elements taken from more than one photo or colours and symbolic objects added. For example, one of the Portraits for NHS Heroes paintings I did was a combination of two images. The first image was used to capture my model’s post and likeness while the second allowed me to paint my Worker wearing her uniform (which she was not wearing in the first reference photo). In this case a rough mockup composition will be sent to you give you an idea of what the final painting will look like.

MATERIALS USED FOR YOUR PAINTING

I use quality professional paints which are highly pigmented and offer good lightfastness, as well as properly primed surfaces so your painting will last and can be treasured for years to come.

Surface Options (Choice of Substrates):

- Oil Painting on Paper
Painted on canvas paper (paper specifically created for oil painting). I take the extra step of further priming the paper with gesso prior to painting. Works on paper are less expensive and easy to mount and frame yourself.

- Oil Painting on Stretched Canvas
Canvas paintings are easy to hang and look great as they are but look extra special when framed. Floater or box frames can be purchased online or made to order at your local framers.

- Oil Painting on Wood Panel (Cradled or Uncradled)
Wooden panels are sturdy and look stylish propped up. Uncradled panels can easily be framed and hung whereas cradled panel paintings can be hung unframed.
